5 Ways Long Distance Relationship Can Be Good For You

Marrying your high school darling is,[9] without a doubt, the most romantic thing ever. However, the journey from high school to married life isn’t as easy as it looks.[5] Especially when you go to different colleges and stay apart for a couple of years. If I was given a dollar for every time someone told me long distance relationships are not worth it, I’d be a billionaire.[12]

It’s been almost 3 years into my relationship and trust me, they couldn’t be more wrong. A long distance relationship changed me for the better.

1. You learn to be self sufficient

There will be days when you need a hug and you won’t have your partner there to embrace you. [1]You learn to be stronger and you get better at dealing with your own emotions. [8]Most of all, you learn to be your own hero.

2. It helps you develop trust

Trust is THE most important thing for any relationship.[7] When you’re in a LDR, it gets difficult to find time to talk to your partner due to busy schedules, and when he says he is too busy to chat, you need to trust him.[5] It’s the same for him when you can’t find the time for a phone call.[1] It becomes a test of patience as well as trust and if you survive, it makes you a better person and leaves you with a stronger relationship.

3. You become loyal

As unbelievable as it sounds,[4] you DO become more loyal in a long distance relationship. There may be an endless number of cute guys asking for your number at various parties, but you miss your partner so often,[10] proclaiming that you’re already happily ‘taken’ gives you comfort.

4. It makes you a better lover

When you get to see your significant other after months,[9] you put in all your effort to make it the best time for the both of you. You might have each other’s company only for a few hours or days,[3] so you don’t waste time fighting or arguing about useless things.[2] You pay more attention to the good things and savour every kiss and hug.

5. You value each other

When you’re away from each other for a long period of time,[10] you tend to value the relationship even more, holding on to it for dear life.[6] In the process, you end up valuing each other and make sure you keep each other happy.[5]
