Kenyan County Kiambu Pays Ksh 400 Daily To Youth For Them To quit Alcohol

Alcoholism is a great factor to poverty in most African societies like kiambu and the leaders are looking for ways to get rid of the habit in our communities.

Some societies have ban the alcohol from their communities, others have imposed heavy taxes against the alcohol just to discourage people from taking it.

Despite some strategies that have been put up to discourage people especially the youth to consume alcohol , the rate at which alcohol is taken is still high.

As a way to see youth quit alcohol, Kiambu a Kenyan county has added over 4000 youth to the government payroll to keep them away from alcohol.

In the government payroll, every youth is to be paid ksh 400 daily to see them quit alcohol.

This approach was introduced by the Kiambu county governor Ferdinand Waititu.

However, the approach has not been approved by some Kiambu leaders who say that the approach is not unsustainable and not well thought out. Its really amazing that Kiambu residents in Kenya spend over shs 14 billion on alcohol every year, according to Tuko news.
