10 Things Every Man Should Never Wear On A Date

It’s hard to resist a man who is dressed nice, groomed to perfection, and well-mannered. Dressing nicely on a date helps set you apart from the rest of the wolf pack, which is essential when trying to impress someone. Dating is hard enough as it is, don’t give someone a reason to not want to see you again, especially when it comes to your clothes.

Here are 10 things that you should never, ever wear on a date

(no matter where you go on the date — although we’d love dinner, thank you).

1). Mustache

Don’t sport a lone mustache on a date. If it’s attached to a beard, that’s fine. You don’t want to look like one of the Village People the first time you meet someone.

2). Pinstripe Suit

I thought these went out of style in the 80s, and if not, watching American Psycho should have solidified this no-no choice. Hopefully you don’t own one. If you do, please get rid of it.

3). Smartwatch

Or an Apple watch. It just makes you look silly, and it makes us think that you like to spend your money on frivolous, ridiculous gadgets. It also reads that you’re a little ostentatious, and you shouldn’t be giving off that vibe on a first date — or any date really.

4). Sweater Vest

As a general rule, don’t, but maybe you’ll be lucky enough to find a girl who loves Raj’s sweater vests from The Big Bang Theory — she may find it amusing. Otherwise, it looks a bit nerdy and kind of like you don’t care — or you could just be an ironic hipster.

5). Anything too trendy

Meaning, no man-harem pants. You don’t want to draw so much attention to your clothes or tell us that you love fashion that much. Don’t wear something that is a head turner or too distracting. Go for a look that is casual and cool.

6). Camouflage

Save it for Halloween. Also, it connotes violence and you definitely don’t want to give off that type of vibe on a date.

7). Anything with metal studs

Unless your day job is being part of a KISS cover band, don’t ever wear anything with metal spikes. It makes you un-caressable and reminds us of our high school punk rock days.

8). Bow tie

This is best left for Bill Nye the Science Guy. Although they’re making a comeback — they’re actually kind of cute — don’t wear one on a date; you’ll come across as sarcastic and affected.

9). Hat

Wearing a baseball hat says you don’t care and also that you’re probably hiding something under there.

10). Anything neon or too bright

Women don’t like men who crave the spotlight and want to draw attention to themselves to drown out whomever they’re with. You’re better off opting for neutrals.
