5 Other Pandemic Diseases That Killed Millions Of People In The Past

At university, Zimbabwean billionaire Strive Masiyiwa, the founder and Executive chairman of Econet wireless studied engineering and economics, but he said his favorite pastime was always to study history. He devoured history books, and still does. He’s a history buff. He read about other pandemic diseases that killed millions of people in the past.

When you don’t have a proper grasp of history, it is very easy to lose perspective, or to be tossed from pillar to post by the wild conspiracies of others. Take the case of what are known as pandemic diseases:

There have been many pandemics in the past.

Even in my own life there have been at least 5 major ones, including some very similar to Covid-19. HIV/AIDS was horrific, and there were silly reports in some newspapers that it would wipe out some African countries like Botswana and Uganda!

The alarmists were there then, as now.

HIV/AIDS killed over 40m people in less than 20 years. Then we had SARS and Bird Flu.
There was even Mad Cow disease, and Swine Flu, and of course, Ebola.

We also had massive disease outbreaks like Cholera on a scale you cannot even imagine!

The pandemic that best resembled an “End time prophecy” was actually the Spanish Influenza, just after the 1st World War. It infected 1/3rd of the earth’s population. It killed over 70m people. In Africa it wiped out entire villages of sometimes 10,000 people!

Within a few months, this Covid thing will peak, and we will all get back to normal life. It will not happen by itself but because practical people are taking actions such as social distancing.

We will defeat this thing.

So let’s not lose perspective, and become so totally paralyzed that we just sit at home and cry. Ok! We will fight it, today. When we win, we will have new and stronger businesses.
