Journalist Alan Kasujja Criticises SMACK For Publicizing Solomon Kampala’s Suspension

BBC Ugandan journalist Alan Kasujja has come out to criticize the administration of St Mary’s College Kisubi for publicizing the suspension of singer/politician Bobi Wine’s son, Solomon Kampala from school.

Alan Kasujja said that as a father who has a teenage son going through such a critical stage, he doesn’t see why the issue had to become public.

He further said that at this stage, children are experimenting with all sorts of ideas and things. It’s therefore not a taboo for them and should rather be guided accordingly than embarrassed publicly.

“As a father of a teenage boy going through a critical stage.. trying to find himself… experimenting with all sorts of ideas and things… I am baffled that SMACK would disclose/confirm such sensitive information about that young man,” Kasujja said.

There were however different opinions flying through on Kasujja’s tweet. Some blamed the explosion of the issue on tribalism, others politics, privilege. While others blamed it on leakage within the family and school.

They didn’t spare Kasujja of the backlash either. They questioned him where his voice has always been on the issue of torture on Ugandans by State Operatives.

Apparently, they suspended Solomon from school for two weeks on 1st February. This was after they nabbed him with marijuana rolled in cigarette sticks and a lighter in his suitcase.

His parents reported to school with him on the 15th of February after the expiry of his suspension. Rumors have it that this is not the first time they have found the boy with the ‘Mary Jane herb’ at school.
