Americans Say They Will Flee The United States If Trump Wins Again

It’s election day in the US and some Americans are threatening to flee depending on the outcome of the polls. This is related to the reminiscent of the dismay they felt following the 2016 presidential election outcome.

No one, however, ditched the States like they claimed they would, case in point is actor Samuel L. Jackson and comedian Jon Stewart. Celebrities who said they’d leave four years ago and later stayed are being mocked. A sherriff from Ohio is offering to provide a one-way ticket for them out of the country.

On the other hand, record numbers of Americans have wanted to flee the US in recent years during President Trump’s term. The number of Americans who to leave in 2017 and 2018 is higher than the numbers during Bush or Obama’s regimes.

Research figures;

A study by Gallup’s World Poll shows that young women in particular, who desire to leave the US are increasing in number. In fact, 40% of women below the age of 30 would like to permanently move according to the study.
28-year-old Maggie Fitzsimmons is one of those women who moved to London in 2017 after living in New York City. She realized she felt most at home across the pond after traveling for personal and business reasons.

Canada is a top destination for would-be emigrant Americans. In September, Google reported a spike in the number of searches for ‘How to apply for Canadian citizenship’ in the US. This was following the first raucous presidential debate.
So far, an estimated 9 million American citizens live overseas as of 2019, according to the State Department.
