India Registers Over 90,000 New COVID-19 Cases In 24 Hours

India, as of September 7, has registered over 90,000 new Covid-19 cases in one day. This made it the highest number of cases in India or any other country in the world in a single day.

India overtook Brazil in the total number of cases registered putting it second to the United States that still has the highest number of cases.

India currently has 4.2 million confirmed cases exclusive of the new 90,632 cases registered in the last 24 hours. The death toll currently stands at 71,742.

The death toll in the country has increased to 70,626 in the country with 1,065 more persons succumbing to the infection in the last 24 hours as per the data.

In UK, nearly 3000 people tested positive for the virus on Sunday alone. This made it the country’s highest daily total since May indicating that there is a spike in the spread.

While Australia looks to avail 85 million doses of the vaccine, the Tokyo Olympics are to take place next year. The vice president of the olympics committee said the event will go on whether Covid-19 is over or not.

According to John Hopkins University, the global number of cases is 27 million and India covers 16% of that.

Despite the sudden spike in cases, Metro services are set to re-start in a monitored manner across the state. It is only in Maharashtra where the government decided against the idea.

Stressing on the recoveries from coronavirus, the Indian Ministry of Health said, “The highest ever single-day recoveries of 70,072 were recorded on September 5. Currently, the recovery rate is 77.23 per cent. This has also led to the declining Case Fatality Rate (CFR), which stands at a new low of 1.73 per cent.”
