Authorities In Lyantonde District Worried About Increasing Cases Of Suicide In The Area

Increasing cases of suicide in Lyantonde district have started causing alarm among residents and the police. So far two people including the LC 1 chairperson have reportedly committed suicide.

These two cases are already under investigation by the police in Lyantonde to see what the cause of this could really be besides all the speculations surrounding them.

This increase in cases is being attributed to domestic violence, financial hardships, drug abuse among others.

The police has called upon the locals to seek counseling in case they are going through any hardships. Police says two wrongs don’t make anything right and surely committing suicide has never been a solution.

The economic situation everywhere around the country has left very many people with nothing to do. Most people who are living below a dollar a day hardly know what to do.

This is because most of the commodity prices are way above the dollar. Due to all this, some people have been pushed to depression which has probably forced some to habour suicidal thoughts.

Much as the police is advising people to seek help if they feel depressed. Even the help they are to seek for is very costly. You can’t see a doctor in Uganda without consultation fee.

If someone can’t afford soap anymore, how will he afford consultation fee. The government should probably send out qualified personnel to the community to offer counselling services in such times before suicide becomes the headline every day.
