Bobi Wine’s Request To Withdraw Election Petition To Be Heard Today

Today the court will be hearing the application by the National Unity Platform to Withdrawal Election Petition Case. The panel of nine Judges will be face to face with NUP lawyers as they listen to their request.

Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine ran to the supreme court immediately after EC announced President Museveni winner. He didn’t agree with the results claiming he had enough evidence to show that he won the elections. According to him, the elections were filled with a number of irregularities that made them really unfair and Imbalanced.

Just a few weeks into the case, Kyagulanyi broke the news that they were withdrawing the election petition case. In his view, the court made all possible means difficult for him with an intention of failing him. So, he preferred to take the case to the public court.

“After deeply reflecting upon the foregoing circumstances, I reached a decision that withdrawing the petition is the right thing to do. Since this court is not handling the petition with the independence, impartiality and equality I expected of it.” He said

What Museveni’s Camp says;

However, the lawyers of President Museveni assured everyone that they have no problem with the withdrawal of the case. They added though that Kyagulanyi’s indecorum was dismay to them.

“The applicant conducted himself with total lack of decorum and with contempt of this court when he held a press conference to announce his decision to withdraw the petition. Falsely claiming that his decision was based on the recusal of the three justices of this honourable court to recuse them. Yet no recusal application had been made by the applicant. The applicant in the same press conference made disparaging remarks on the justices of this honourable court.”

Clearly, this is going to be a long day too. Nonetheless, most of the people are waiting to hear the amount of money NUP has to pay to compensate NRM. Of course, there is a question of what next for NUP after this.
