Uganda’s long distance runner, Joshua Cheptegei, won the Cross Country race in Seville, Spain on Sunday.
Last year 2017 in August Cheptegei won a silver medal in the 10,000m men’s race at the IAAF World Championships 2017 in London.
Cheptegei crossed the line in 00:30:54 to win the 36th Cross International de Italica.
The 21-year-old was followed by Uganda’s World Cross Country junior champion Jacob Kiplimo (00:30:55), and in 7th place, Joel Ayeko (00:31:48), world champion of mountain races.
Inaugurated in 1982, the race course is set in the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Italica.
It is the fifth leg of this season’s IAAF Cross Country Permit series.
Uganda’s Moses Kipsiro was the 2008 and 2009 winner of Italica.
