FDC Omoro County Candidate Abducted By Unknown Gunmen

As the campaigns for the upcoming Omoro County by-election ripen up, tensions are beginning to get heated up in the region.

The latest now is how the FDC candidate, Owani Dick Denis has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen. His whereabouts are yet to be known according to the party. He was due to get nominated today as it’s the day the Electoral Commission gazetted.

“BREAKING: Our candidate for Omoro county Owani Dick Denis has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen ahead of his nomination today. His whereabouts are yet to be Known,” the party tweeted.

However, some of the party’s followers are skeptical about the news. Some think it could be a stunt organized by the party to pull some headlines for their candidate.

And hopefully, this will help him in garnering votes on the final day of voting. Politicians and FDC in particular are well known for pulling off controversial stunts.

“These tricks only work in the central region.. it is a fact. People of Northern Uganda can not be persuaded with such….mono-play tricks,” one user said.

“We hope that the abduction is not another gimmick too,” another said.

Meanwhile Paul Bukenya the spokesperson of the EC said that today is when the nominations of the candidates start. This will then give the whole by-election a clear picture.

“Today, we are starting the nomination of the candidates, and that’s when the by-election will get a face. There is a law that governs the process, and we shall handle it in its unique way,” Mr Paul Bukenya said.

The election is in line to replace the fallen former Speaker of Parliament, Hon Jacob Oulanyah. Oulanyah, unfortunately, passed away in March in Seattle in the US where he had been hospitalized.

So far the people who have expressed their interest in the race are Andrew Ojok Oulanyah. He’s the son of the late Speaker and will stand on the NRM ticket. Plus he’s also the favorite to clinch this election due to his father’s legacy in Omoro.

The other is NUP’s Toolit who was endorsed by the party last month and is expected to put up a tough challenge and now FDC’s Owani Dick Denis. The election is slated for 26th May 2022.
