Former Minister Beti Kamya Speaks Out After Being Named IGG

Former Minister of Kampala Capital City Authority Beti Kamya has spoken out after President Museveni named her the new Inspector General of Government.

President Museveni on Friday 15th July 2021 named a host of new names on the public service whilst retiring some. It was in this vein that the President named Beti Kamya as the new IGG.

However, most people such as Miria Matembe have come out to criticize the President for making such an appointment. She echoed some of the sentiments felt by some people who feel that Kamya is a biased person yet her new role needs a genuine and honest person.

They allude to the fact that Kamya switched allegiance from the opposition to the ruling NRM after being promised a number of privileges. They further feel she will be biased in her judgements.

Matembe earlier said that the IGG has to be a person of an unquestionable character whose resolve can’t be tested.

Kamya served as the Minister of Kampala Capital City Authority. She has widespread experience in positions of leadership despite the criticisms.

Kamya said that she’s going to fight corruption although she’s not a lawyer.

“Am going to fight corruption. It doesn’t matter that I’m not a lawyer. But what I can assure you is that I’m going to work with all my strength as the IGG and I will fight corruption in this government.” Kamya assured the country.

Lydia Mugambe Ssali previously served in the position from 2019.
