Ghetto Youth Urge Museveni To Fulfill Campaign Pledge

Members of the Ghetto Youth Ambassadors are reminding President Yoweri Museveni to fulfill his campaign pledge. Before elections, the president said he would give the ghetto dwellers she 2.5b, but this has not happened yet.

During an interview with the group leader, Juma Ssenono, he revealed that the president promised to give them funds. He said the promise happened in the run-up to the 2021 presidential campaigns.

The promise happened after the 236 head commanders of the ambassadors met the president at his home. The visit happened in Rwakitura on December 27, 2020.

“However, when the elections ended, this didn’t come to pass which forced the youth to attack me asking for the funds thinking that I had received them and diverted them to doing my private work. I then called the president and told him about my plight,” Ssenono said.

He further said the president directed him to Dr. Kenneth Omona who promised to release the funds in the first quarter of 2021. However, the funds have up to now not been released according to Ssenono.

He said they planned to put the money into their SACCO called Nankulabye Dry Cleaners SACCO. This SACCO has a membership of up to 15,000 youth who come from the six divisions of Kampala.

Ssenono revealed that the SACCO is under the umbrella organization Kampala Ghetto Youth Ambassadors. He said they plan on purchasing modern washing machines that will help them earn a living.

“If this money is deposited on our account, each division will receive Shs 500 million,” he added.
