Government In Talks With ADF Rebels To Return For Amnesty

Government through the Presidential Initiative on Peace, Security and Development in the Rwenzori region program is involved in talks with rebels.

Through the Kasese Peace and Security Center, it is championing the return of rebels from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo for amnesty. The program started on July 30, 2022 and the Rwenzururu Initiative for Social Transformation initiated it.

Officials confirmed the development on Wednesday while addressing a press conference at the Centre Head offices in Kasese town. Fenehasi Bwambale Kisokeranio, the Chairperson for Kasese Peace and Security Center is one of the officials.

The other was the former Minister of State for Defense and Veteran Affairs who is currently the Mission Coordinator of the program, Christopher Kibanzanga Mbalibulha.

The duo also said President Museveni appointed them to head the campaign to ensure the surrender of remaining rebels.

Kisokeranio is the former rebel leader of the National Army for the Liberation of Uganda- NALU. In 2015, he surrendered and handed himself to the President of the Republic of Uganda at the State House in Entebbe.

He is now calling on the remaining rebels to stop terrorizing parts of DR Congo and surrender. Additionally, he majorly focused on Musa Seka Baluku, the leader of the Allied Democratic Forces.

In his part, Kibanzanga also assured that the Kasese Peace and Security Center has been gazetted by the government. He said UPDF soldiers are always guarding the rehabilitation centre for those who will surrender.
