Grandmother Sells Grandson For Shs12 Million Because His Father Failed To Pay Bride Price

Police in River State, Nigeria rescued a two weeks old baby boy after he was sold for Ush12 million by his grandmother identified as Amos Antonia.

According to police, Antonia sold his grandson claiming that his dad didn’t pay her daughter’s bride price.

Reports indicates that Mr Duru Christian, the dad of the two weeks old baby boy reported the case to the police. The police then led a sting operation to arrest the grandmother.

The River State police commissioner, Mr Mukan Joseph said that the old woman led the police officers to Ukanafun LGA in Ibom State. This is where a lady known as Umoh Pauline was apprehended.

The old woman also led the police officers to Mgbidi, Imo State. The police arrested the customer Madam Obianwa Juliana from this point and the baby boy recovered.

The police commissioner further said that the officers are working on arresting other people involved in the crime.

Shelin Kasozi of Kyampisi Childcare Ministries (KCM), a charity that cares for survivors of attempted child sacrifice said.

Shelin said the cases were reported from October to February in Ssembabule, Mukono, Buikwe and Mubende districts in central Uganda. Suspects had been apprehended, but the cases had yet to go to court, she said.

Binoga Moses, coordinator of the anti-trafficking task force at the interior ministry, said children had been reported missing in the election period. But he could not confirm KCM’s reports and said investigations were ongoing.
