IGP Ochola Condemns Attack On Police Station And Murder Of Its Officer

The Inspector-General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola has strongly condemned the senseless act of violence by some people in Namasagali.

An irate mob attacked the police station there to rescue and take into custody two traditional healers. Ochola said the two had allegedly bewitched two village members to death in July.

According to CP Fred Enanga the police spokesperson, early information suggests the attack happened on Sunday evening at around 6:00 pm.

Police responded to a life-threatening situation and rescued two traditional healers from the angry mob.

Furthermore, they rushed the two victims to the Namasagali police station for safe custody.

While here, the angry mob, carrying machetes, sticks, and stones attacked the officers with intentions of lynching the two suspects.

Additionally, Enanga said the police efforts to disperse the mob with warning shots all failed to work as the mob kept on coming close.

Two of the officers namely; Sgt Nakabuye Florence and Detective constable Kasolo Francis sustained serious injuries.

Buyinza Buyala, the ring leader of the mob, finally overwhelmed and disarmed the officers. One of the rescued victims, Namuyindo Yosam got fatally wounded from the stray bullets.

However, D/C Kasolo Francis couldn’t survive after his injuries took a toll on him while on his way to the hospital.

‘’We are deeply saddened by the loss of our officer and that of Yosam. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends, colleagues, and relatives. May their souls rest in eternal peace,’’ Enanga said in a police statement.

He also added assuring people that the police has directed sufficient resources in apprehending the suspects involved in the horrendous tragedy.
