Japanese Woman Hid Dead Mother’s Corpse For 10 Years, Here’s Why

A Japanese woman, known as Yumi Yoshimo hid her dead mother’s corpse in a freezer in her apartment for a decade. In her defense, she said she feared that she feared an eviction from the house if the police had discovered the death.

Japanese police said they held the 48-year-old ‘’on suspicion of abandoning and hiding a female body’’. They found the body inside a freezer in a Tokyo apartment on Wednesday.

She said she hid the body 10 years ago. However, her reason was that she didn’t want to move out of the home she shared with her mother.

The mother, who is said to have been around 60 at the time of her death, was named on the lease of the apartment in a municipal housing complex. According to reports, authorities forced Yoshino to leave the apartment in mid-January after missing rent payments. It was a cleaner who discovered the body in the freezer.

Unfortunately, an autopsy could not determine the time and cause of death of the woman according to the hospital reports.

Yoshino will probably be charged with interfering with police investigations. This could have happened 10 years ago to determine what caused her mother’s death.

Authorities might also hold her as a suspect in a murder case. However, the courts are yet to determine her fate.
