John Pombe Magufuli, The Only African President Who Hasn’t Set Foot Outside Africa Since His Election As President

An African President is usually identified by the expensive trips he takes across the world in attempts to consolidate himself as a leader and perhaps build relations between his countries and those outside Africa. John Magufuli however is one very strange president, the Tanzanian leader has apparently never set foot outside Africa since his election as president in 2015.

The Tanzanian President is not like any other president. He doesn’t fall in this category and since his election back then, he has never stepped out of Africa. Magufuli is one exceptional African president.

The man’s only interest is building his country and nothing else. He has done quite a number of things within a space of five years. Among them, the controversial firing of some of his Ministers for corruption related issues and incompetence.

Magufuli has ran a platform of reducing government corruption and spending while also investing in Tanzania’s industries. However, many people accuse him of having increasing autocratic tendencies. He brought on restrictions on freedom of speech and a crackdown on members of the political opposition. He won the election in October 2015 presidential election and was sworn in on 5 November 2015.

His leadership style is very much different from that of the other African leaders. He sends diplomats to represent him in the international meetings with other leaders. He is very careful of how he exercises his leadership. Magufuli is also one of the most unpredictable African leaders.

Well, we can only hope his name doesn’t turn out among autocratic leaders such as Museveni, Mugabe, Bashir, among others.
