Judiciary Has The Capacity To Prosecute Sam Kutesa Over Corruption Allegation

The United States bribery case against minister of foreign affairs, Honourable Sam Kutesa transferred to Uganda’s judiciary with Justice Bashaija Andrew who was authorized to hear the case.

Uganda’s judiciary however confirmed on Monday that it has the possibility to hold a trial against Sam Kahamba Kutesa and cautioned against any impact advocating from whoever may be affected by the situation.

Foreign affairs minister is accused of receiving $500,000 ( approximately Shs1.8 billion ) as a bribe from a potential investor and he was guilty of corruption in a United States court in December 2018.

Towards the end of last month, one of the concerned citizens presented a petition to court to have Kutesa tried over these corruption allegations.

Before the trial, Anti-Corruption Civil Society Groups ( ACCSG ) requested that Kutesa should resign as a minister.

A few weeks back, the Attorney General cleared Kutesa of any misconduct after he was incriminated by a United States court of bribery.
