Karamoja, Hunger Claims 70 Lives As Drought Continues

Reports coming in from Karamoja indicate that so far hunger has claimed 70 lives in the sub-region. This is because of the ongoing drought season in Karamoja.

The local authorities are calling upon the government and humanitarian agencies to come to their rescue and supply the locals with food as the drought season continues.

Butaleja is also having the same issue and they too have called upon government to intervene. Unfortunately on top of the famine, the country is undergoing an economic crisis at the moment.

This only makes the situation worse. However, this can not be an excuse for the government to fold hand. People are dying of hunger, they can do something.

Some members of the public have accused the government of failing to come up with formable policies to control food insecurity.

“Govt and its officials have failed to come up with formable policies and measures to control food insecurity in the country. Today we are looking at karamoja. This is a problem in the country because even in kla, many can’t afford a meal a day. Chapati and beans is not food,” a one Julius Kigozi said.

Meanwhile, these areas awesomely voted for NRM and people have been sarcastically telling them to enjoy the services of those they voted.

“I’m sorry they are our brothers but they overwhelmingly voted for museveni. In fact all MPs from there are NRM and they were promised good services on voting for them,” a one Emmanuel said.
