Kiboga Woman Poisons Children, One Dead, Another In Critical Condition

Kiboga District Police are still investigating the circumstances that led to a mother poisoning her two children. The poison killed one of the children and left the other hospitalized in critical condition.

The said incident took place on May 4th, 2023 at Nasuna cell in Kiboga Town Council.

The Wamala region police spokesperson, Racheal Kawala identified the mother of two as a one Rahuma Nankunda. Rahuma is alleged to have poisoned herself and her two children following a misunderstanding with her husband and mother-in-law.

Kawala revealed how the two children, Hanifah Nassiwa, 6, and Sadick Lubulwa, 4, were rushed to the hospital together with their mother. The three were taken to Kiboga Hospital for treatment after they were found.

In an unfortunate turn of events, Nassiwa, a student at Good Morals Nursery School, passed away on 5 May at about 6:00am.

Kawala explained that the incident started with Nankunda had a misunderstanding with her husband, only identified as Musisi. Apparently, the husband had suspected her of having an affair with another man who had impregnated her. Musisi eventually took the matter to his mother, Harriet Nantiba.

He also later reported to the Police’s family and children protection unit in Kiboga. The police later summoned Nankunda for a meeting but got shocked when she found the mother of her new boyfriend in attendance.

Police investigating revealed that fearing further embarrassment, Nankunda skipped the meeting. She went to a nearby shop to buy sodas for her kids who she said were hungry, but she never returned to the meeting.

It later came to light that she had bought sodas and poison which she mixed and served to her children.

After waiting in vain for Nankunda to return, Musisi sent his young brother to check on her from home. He came back and informed them that she had locked herself inside the house.

Local council leaders were then tipped by Musisi and they went and broke down the house door, only to find the three in critical condition. The police took some evidence from the scene and are waiting for Nankunda to recover before charging her.
