Mr Muthua disappeared from his home in Ikumbi village Muranga County in the year 1968 when he was thirty years of age.

He didn’t bother to inform his wife and children where exactly he was going as they were left in incredible agony trying to discover his whereabouts.

His wife identified as Muthua Wanjiru narrated that she was just like a single mother looking after her six kids alone, while trying to look here and there for him as well as checking with her in laws, but all in vain.

Eventually, I gave up with the search for my husband, who was meant to continue with his responsibility as a man, to look after me and the children, but I had hope within me that he will get back home one day,’she said.

Ms Muthua said her last option was to leave the matter to God, and she kept praying hoping that he will probably return home one day. She instead had to concentrate on taking care of the children and to make sure they go to school.

Upon his return, Mr Francis told his family and the village members that he had gone to Kilgoris towns and Kisii, Narok where he tried doing business, but things were not successful.

Later, he resorted to charcoal burning business in Mau Forest, where he settled and even got married to another woman there, but things didn’t go well in our marriage because I  was addicted to drinking.

I did burn the charcoal, but unfortunately I would use almost all the money in drinking alcohol, my 2nd wife and my son were fed up of my habits, so they had to leave. My life became so confusing and miserable at the same time, I regarded myself as a total failure, thus feeling ashamed of returning home with nothing,’said Mr Francis.

He was forced to return home as soon as the government begun evicting settlers from Mau forest to help save it from total destruction.

He was surprised to see that the children he abandoned many years ago are already older and busy operating their own businesses.

It was a very big surprise to the family and the whole village, they had to slaughter goats and quickly organized a party for the old man.
