The activity which is being carried out by Ministry of Works and Transport intends to get an up to date database of all vessels and boats operating on lake Victoria.

Currently, the Ugandan government does not know the actual number of boats and vessels operating on L.Victoria. The supervisor of the ongoing exercise, Mr Twinomujuni Barnabus says they want to find out the total number of vessels and boats and then record them.

Once we get to know the total number of boats operating on specific Landing sites, we shall therefore get to know how to advance the sites in relation to environmental aspects and safety,’’he said.

He said the challenges they face are some boat owners who refuse to get their boats registered.
