Miss Curvy Shirat Nassuna Denies Miss Curvy Pageant Aims At Promoting Prostitution

The reigning Miss Curvy, Shirat Nassuna, has denied allegations that the Miss Curvy beauty pageant is aimed at promoting prostitution. She said that the two don’t even have a single connection at all.

It’s just aimed at promoting and boosting the confidence of curvy women in Uganda. She said this thought of prostitution is only propagated by uncivilized people but for her case, she’s set to use her platform for development.

She added that since the mainstream Miss Uganda pageant accommodates smaller people in body size, this is their only way to shine.

“Prostitution and Miss Curvy don’t even have a connection at all. This thought is just propagated by uncivilized people. However, for my case, I intend to use my role to promote development and other positive things. Besides this pageant is for teaching us the bigger women to appreciate our bodies since the other available pageants don’t accept us to compete in them,” she said.

Her opinion was seconded by Ann Mungoma who is one of the organizers of the pageant.

Ann revealed that the original beauty pageants were brought by whites in the 60’s and 70’s. These only accommodated the petite and slender beauties and the norm has continued up to now.

Meanwhile Shirat who won the 2022 contest and is set to represent Uganda at this year’s Miss Curvy Africa contest.

The pageant for this year didn’t get widespread attention and was a low key ceremony at Club Ambiance. It was attended by only 10 contestants with Nassuna emerging as winner.
