Movie Commentator VJ Junior Eyes Erias Lukwago’s Lord Mayoral Seat

Famous Luganda movie translator and commentator, Mary Smarts Matovu popularly known as VJ Junior has apparently set his site on the Kampala Mayoral Seat.

Taking to his social media pages, VJ Junior posted a photo of him and NUP’s secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya.

Junior then proceeded to say that if anyone shows him a better and befitting lord mayor for 2026 other than him, they would be lying.

He also went ahead to applaud Rubongoya for the wise words imparted to him.

It might seem like we just got out of the election period and are supposed to enjoy a 5-year non-political period. This however doesn’t seem to be the case as several Ugandans have already set their sights on the next General elections.

The self-styled ‘Ever Challenged but never equaled’ video jockey expressed his regret in not meeting Bobi Wine at the party headquarters. Junior referred to Bobi Wine as the modern-day Martin Luther King of Uganda.

“Show me someone who fits to be the next Kampala Mayor(2026) who is not me and i’ll show you a liar. Thank you counsel @DavidLRubongoya for the words of wisdom. And also yo’ enthusiastic input in the struggle. Sad I missed meeting our modern Martin Luther King, Mr @HEBobiwine,” said Junior.

It seems like he’s already eyeing the seat occupied by Erias Lukwago. However, it’s not clear if the FDC bigwig is willing to relinquish it.

Meanwhile, Junior participated in the 2021 General elections but lost to NUP’s Faisal Ssebayigga Kibirige. He was vying for the lord councilorship of Mutungo that covers Kitintale and Mutungo.

It seems like he’s now decided to make ties with NUP to further his political career.
