Muhoozi Appoints Andrew Mwenda As Official Spokesperson For MK Army

Newly promoted and somewhat demoted military officer and son to the president of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has apparently appointed veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda as his Spokesperson. This was revealed through his official Twitter Account.

To many, this is not a shock at all, Muhoozi has recently become a magnet for controversies lately. Whatever comes out of his Twitter handle somehow makes it to the news, sometimes even to the headlines.

In recent months, the controversial military general has been throwing hints of a possible run for his father’s office come 2026. His attempts may be wobbly and snide but still stands out as an act of defiance to his father.

Muhoozi Kainerugaba recently squared off with Museveni, insisting that no one – and he put that in capital letters – would stop him from anything.

Muhoozi was responding, on his Twitter account, to an interview in which his father threatened to stop him from tweeting.

“We have had this discussion,” the president said, “he will leave Twitter.”

Muhoozi’s Twitter account, with more than half a million followers, has been the headache of Ugandan civil servants and his father. On more than one occasion, government ministers have had to issue clarifications and apologies over tweets sent out by the general.

This appointment of Andrew Mwenda, therefore, perhaps brings in a ray of light to Muhoozi’s rather gloomy and shadowy path to the highest office in the land. Mwenda who at some point tried to contest as National Unity Platform president in the primaries but failed, is the perfect man for the job, at least according to Muhoozi.

In his capacity as spokesman for the MK army as they call it, Mwenda will be in charge of all public statements from Muhoozi. Maybe this time, we will see a more mature and civil approach to his ambitious presidential dreams.

An elite and one of the strongest critics of Bobi Wine, and with media experience spanning decades, Mwenda brings himself to serving Museveni’s notoriously rebellious son in what many will probably see as a bad decision for a veteran journalist of his caliber.

However, Mwenda is known to be one person who always has the inside info, therefore, he might have seen or heard what many have not been able to clearly perceive.
