President Museveni Warns Farmers Against Growing Rice In Swamps

The President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni made an announcement where he cautioned farmers  to stop the method of cultivating Rice in swampy areas. In his words, the president claimed that the practice destroys environment.

In his speech, Museveni yesterday said that during the opening of the South-South and Triangular Cooperation Conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo, the 3-day conference has taken place the same time with the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) – China South-South Cooperation Programme.

The event was fully attended by delegates from 10 countries across Africa and some western countries.

“Here’s some good news. I have been told by our friends from China that no more swamp rice. What they call swamps here is actually tributaries of the Nile” Museveni noted.

This was also the right time for the President to appreciate China for investing in infrastructural sectors that enabled the country to develop extensively.
