Normal Classes To Resume In Rwanda

The government of Rwanda on Saturday announced the reopening of schools for all classes beginning August 2nd. The government said this will go as planned as they ensure proper COVID-19 control protocols as well as appropriate behavior.

‘’Students in the pre-primary and the lower primary will begin the third term on Monday, August 2, in line with the existing school year calendar for 2020-2021,’’ the Rwandan Ministry of Education said in a communique released on Saturday.

The ministry reminded the schools and other educational institutions to always observe the Covid-19 preventive measures in this resumption period.

Some of these measures include social distancing, proper wearing of face masks, regular handwashing with soap and clean water, among others.

They also requested the schools to use volunteers and catch-up programs to keep supporting the students.

‘’All schools are allowed to open for all class from 2nd August 2021. They shall follow proper protocol to ensure Covid-19 appropriate behavior,’’ the statement said.

By July 31, 2021, Rwanda had recorded 7,510 cases in the last seven days. Out of those, 126 recovered but another 170 people are still active patients.

A total of 798 people have so far been killed by the pandemic in Rwanda.
