The member of parliament for Aruu County Hon Odongo Otto and Hon Oulanya Gilbert were arrested on Monday by police officers attached to Gulu Police Station for protesting demanding for the closure of Elegu Border to avoid cargo truck drivers coming in the country with Covid-19.
Many Ugandans are worried due to increasing number of infections coming in from different border points mainly Elegu which was termed as the hotbed for coronavirus. The president however said in his yesterday’s nation address that since they have identified where the enemy is coming from, the discovery of more positive cases shouldn’t scare anybody, it simply means we are doing a good job.
The Acholi MPs took to the streets demanding for decentralization of increasing number of positive cases admitted at Gulu Referral Hospital.

Hon Odongo Otto and Gilbert Oulanya appealed to the government to sort out the mess of covid-19 cases at Gulu Referral Hospital immediately, adding that if it comes to the worst, they are ready to mobilize Acholi Community to block all the cargo truck drivers coming in via Elegu entry point.
