P.7 Candidate Commits Suicide After Being Flogged 80 strokes For Loving Fellow Pupil

Learners, staff and the public have been thrown into shock after a young male P.7 candidate committed suicide at St Yuda Tadeo Primary School in Bukomansimbi district.

Sources say that this learner was accused of trying to woo a fellow learner. This saw him get a punishment of about 80 strokes.

He was apparently caned 30 times and then told to go to the headmaster’s office. He however went to the library where he put a rope around his neck thus hanging himself.

This pupil was discovered by a fellow learner who made an alarm prompting the teachers to come by. It was however too late to save his life as he was already dead.

Police was called and it came to the scene. They took the body to the mortuary and the school was cordoned off.

Parents however flocked the school perimeter but were blocked from accessing inside. Even the deceased’s mother came by but she was blocked from entering.

The parents started accusing the school authorities of subjecting their children to harsh punishments.

“We want Justice. How can you cane a young learner 80 times simply because he loved another pupil,” one concerned parent said.

“There is a teacher who got involved sexually with a minor and this school dubiously hid the case and they want to do the same to this case. We however demand justice,” another said.

The mother of this child said that she was planning to visit her son who was to sit his PLE exams next month. She had earlier visited him and paid all the school dues.

Breaking down in tears, she revealed that the school authorities had shamelessly blocked her from entering the school. No one even dared to console her let alone provide a clear explanation on how her son died.

She was only let in when the RDC Jane Francis Kagayi Kipayopayo visited the scene. Ms Kipayopayo asked teachers to try and create a conducive environment between themselves and the learners.

This will easily help them to overcome such problems in future.

Fellow pupils however said that their mate had some rules he had broken at school which they also don’t know.

And on being summoned, he went to the library thus untimely and unfortunately ending his life.
