Police Denies Witch-Hunting Rev Fr Mugisha Richard

A few days ago, Rev. Fr Mugisha Richard had his car broken into at around 11:30 pm by a 30-year-old man identified as Kyeyune Ronald. The vehicle in discussion is a Toyota Harrier, under registration number, UAX 815Y.

As he tried to drive off with the car, an irate group of youths and community vigilante members rounded the suspect up. From here, they started to lynch him for his attempted crime.

During this scuffle, Fr Mugisha Richard called the police to help save the suspect from death, about an hour and a half from when the beating started.

A police patrol team, led by AIP Okello Patrick, responded and rescued the wounded suspect who they transferred to Masaka CPS after 1 am. At around 6:30 am the following morning, the cell guard realized that the suspect felt unwell due to the beating.

The cell guard then alerted his colleagues who had Mr. Kyeyune transferred to the hospital for treatment. The victim, unfortunately, passed away during this process.

Among the statements recorded were those from the Reverend, and other vigilantes who were involved in the scuffle.

There has however been some rumor spreading that the investigation is due to Rev. Fr. Mugisha views about the government.

Many said police intended to witch hunt or victimize the reverend. The investigations however are purely about the crime of murder and how to bring the perpetrators to justice.

‘’We continue to investigate every lead that we receive as we work to secure justice for the victim and his immediate family. Any decision coming out of the investigation will be based on facts. To our young politicians, allegations of murder, including mob justice, should not be treated as politics,’’ CP Fred Enanga said.
