Police Explains How Their Officer Was Disarmed By Civilian During Youth Elections

After watching a disturbing video which made rounds on social media, Uganda police confirmed that one of their officers were disarmed by a local leader in Kawempe Division Kampala with shock.

The shocking experience took place yesterday during the youth elections at Kawempe Division, Kiyaga Zone Bwaise 1 Kampala City suburbs by the time results they declared results where National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate got twenty one votes against NRM candidate who only got nine votes.

The youth began thinking that there was a possibility of declaring NRM candidate as the winner.

They turned to the police officer identified as Cpl Rutabaleka Jack who was guarding the venue and started insulting him. He was grabbed unaware by 6 men who came from behind, in the process the area LC 1 chairman Kimera Joachim came and disarmed him.

According to Uganda Police, this move was planned by the Local council one Chairman and the 6 men.
After disarming the officer, Kimera immediately instructed the 6 men to take off before he returned the gun to the officer who was already in total shock.

The officer did not want to cause commotion at the venue since he was alone at that time.

He called for reinforcement to have the chairman arrested but he too had disappeared.

Police have opened up a case of assault and disarming a police officer on duty at Kawempe Police Station.

We are now looking for the chairman and the six suspects to arrest them for committing an offence.

We want to send a strong warning to members of the public to desist from a criminal act of disarming security personnel on duty.

‘Looks like these people of NUP take a lot of substances really which is bad our brothers and sister please fair elections for the betterment of all of us really that’s why i love NRM am not of any party but NRM always organized God bless you all,’ Happy commented.

‘This should be an eye opener, there are certain areas where you can’t deploy one officer like that area,’ Joshua commented.

‘Your colleague yayagade to harm the members around because was going Insane so they decided to disarm him not to harm residents,’ Pro commented.

‘The act is reckless by the public but also train your men in uniform to be civil and professional. Not every situation require force and bullets. The expectation should have been calling for support when the situation before it is out of control. Probably officer deployed him should be questioned how can he be left alone at the stations. Police risked officer’s life,’ Guma commented.
