The police decision follows an appeal made by one of the neighbours identified as Major Kyembe Abdul to the IGP, Mr Ochola Okoth Martin requesting him to stop the church from displaying fireworks crackers.

Previously, fireworks activities used to done at bars, hotels and other non-religious centres.

Nevertheless, in the previous years, several churches also applied for permission to showcase pyrotechnics at the new year celebrations.

In the letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Abdul urges that since Prayer Miracle Centre Church is located in a residential area in Mukono with older people they might be troubled by the noise which comes from fireworks crackers.

The residents obtained a letter from NEMA and a temporary court order stopping the church from showcasing pyrotechnics because of what they experienced on 31st December 2017,’’he said.
