Suspect Held After Attacking An Officer With A Panga

Suspect Held After Attacking An Officer With A Panga In Mbale

Mbale city security seized a panga-wielding suspect after he attempted to cut off an officer’s head at a checkpoint yesterday. The incident happened on Mbale-Tirinyi highway last evening at around 5:00 pm.

Mr Denis Pahani, the DPC Industrial City Division said the two colleagues of Sgt Grace Ilumu, the in-charge Industrial City Division Central Police Station jumped to her rescue.

The two rescuers reportedly sustained minor injuries but the certainty to these claims has not been guaranteed yet.

The suspects whom Police interviewed gave confirmation to the attack on police officers at Sino Uganda Mbale industrial Park police Checkpoint in Doko Ward.

Apparently, two assailants on a motorcycle approached the police officers. One jumped off taking a swing of his panga towards one of the officers. As for the second assailant, he rode off speedily towards Mbale City.

The suspect is currently at Mbale Industrial City Division Central Police Station as investigations continue. Police say the motive of the suspect remains unknown. They also thanked the residents for helping in the capture of the suspect.

This attack comes just a day after machete wielders attacked and killed a police officer and injured another in Luweero district. The suspects are still at large even as a joint security forces comb neighbourhoods in and outside Luweero Town.

The Luweero District Police Commander, Mr Living Twezagye, told the media that they still treat the checkpoint as a crime scene. However, though, there were no visible security deployments seen at the alleged crime scene.

Traffic officer shot dead by a UPDF soldier

In similar incident, a scuffle between a UPDF soldier and a traffic officer happened in the city center due to traffic jam.

According to an eyewitness, the incident took place around Mukwano Mall along Kyaggwe road. Military Police officers driving a green vehicle registration number D02DF08P ordered the traffic officer to clear the way for them.
