The assistant RDC of Kitgum, Col Asiimwe Lawrence gave a warning to teachers in the district to make sure they stop riding boda boda and return to teaching.
Last Friday, Col Lawrence told monitor that many teachers in Kitgum district have abandoned their teaching jobs and instead they resorted to boda boda riding and yet the government still pays them as teachers.
Mr Lawrence continued and said he can’t sit back and relax and yet pupils / students report to school, but the educators are not available to take on their duties.
He however said previously teachers used to complain so much about poor pay, but even when the government decided to increase their remuneration, others deserted their responsibilities.
Col Lawrence called the teachers to exercise their skills while performing their duties.
Two years ago, most teachers in Kitgum district were teaching while riding boda bodas at the same time which helped them to earn a side income, but unfortunately, learners used not to complete their syllabus.
They are now warned to choose between teaching and riding boda boda, or else they’ll be arrested for abandoning their jobs for boda boda business and yet they keep receiving salaries from government.
