Uganda Musicians Association Draws Roadmap To Combat Opposing Factions

The Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) yesterday held a press conference to determine a way forward in it’s leadership to combat the different rising factions.

It should be noted that a few weeks ago, some artists under the leadership of Jose Chameleon seceded from UMA.

They went ahead to form the Uganda Music Federation, embodying another umbrella known as Uganda Superstars Association.

These artists said they were not fighting Uganda Musicians Association but instead wanted to work with all music umbrellas in Uganda. They then advised UMA to join them. Chameleon and his faction went ahead to hold meetings with UMA and the OWC to see a way forward for the music industry.

Despite UMA’s president coming out last week to say the meetings were fruitful. She however converged another meeting yesterday with some of the industry’s big names.

People like Dr Hilderman, Mesach Ssemakula, Cindy, Sophie Gombya, Isaac Ruuchi, Kayemba Solo were all in attendance. Mesach while addressing the media said they wanted to draw up and build a structure that is going to steer Uganda’s music industry ahead.

Mawokota south MP, Hilary Kiyaga aka Dr Hilderman said that all artists who had not yet registered with UMA were wasting time. He emphasized that UMA is the only umbrella they recognize for all musicians in Uganda. The rest are just from selfish individuals.

“I’m urging all artists there to come and register with UMA before it’s late. We have heard of all those groups emerging but we know these are created by those with selfish interests. Those are the artists who got a chance to even meet the president. But they never present anything for the industry viable other than selfish interests.” Hilderman said.

Kato Lubwama also said that UMA was going to counter the impunity of some musicians. The former MP said that some of these artists had indiscipline right from the start of their careers up to now.

He, therefore, said the policy board of UMA created would help to check the discipline of musicians.

Cindy went ahead to say that they will hold elections in September. She also added that the electoral commission agreed to help them in this exercise.
