Ugandan Man Who Kidnapped Kenyan Police Officer Escapes From Custody

Police in Kenya alongside officers from Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) in Kamukunji Constituency on Thursday launched a manhunt after a Ugandan man identified as Wasike Martin suspected to have kidnapped a Kenyan police officer escaped from custody.

Wasike, who is accused of kidnapping and possibly killing a police officer in January 2020 managed to flee from Kamukunji police station, where the courts of law had ordered him to be detained until 2nd June.

The funny incident came just a couple of days after a city lawyer cautioned that serious sentences issued in murder charges might be an encouragement for the suspect and two others to escape from the law.

During their appearance before Magistrate Ochoi Bernard, the detectives from DCI opposed the idea to release them on bond fearing that the police officer might have been murdered, according to Nairobi news.

On Tuesday, the Ugandan man alongside a Kenyan identified as Anindo Andayi Phoebe and another man from Uganda, Wanabwa Sharif were charged for allegedly abducting a 27 year old Kenyan police officer identified as Musati Abel on 19th January 2020.

The officer from Kamukunji police station, hasn’t been found ever since, but the detectives on 17th April only recovered his mobile phone in Eastleigh town Nairobi.
