Victim Of Mawanda Road Robbery Speaks Out, Seeks Protection

The victim of motorcycle gang robbery on Mawanda road, an Indian businessman has spoken out about the incident, He says this incident has left him in shock ever since.

The attacked man works in Kololo, a suburb in Kampala.

14 thugs riding on 7 motorcycles cut him off at a road junction on Mawanda Road in Kampala and took his belongings.

The victim of the attack, Jiwan Lal, is an accountant with Rigil Agro Peck Limited based in Kololo. On July 24, he got involved in a daring daylight robbery as he headed back home from work. CCTV cameras recorded the scuffle on camera.

He said he is still scared to move out of his home and has confined himself indoors. On the contrary, though, he said he thanks God that he did not sustain any serious injuries because these thugs could even have killed him.

According to the recovered CCTV footage, the thugs surrounded and physically assaulted the victim continuously.

They went away with 5 million

They wrestled with him until they made away with his money that amounted to Shs5million, two mobile phones, a silver chain, and company documents.

He told reporters that he still suffers pain due to the several beatings the thugs subjected him to. On top of that, Jiwan feels like the thugs are out there somewhere waiting to attack him again.

He has no idea if the attackers targeted him directly, or the company he works for indirectly.

’I have been staying indoors ever since the incident. I fear for my life, I have a big family back home (India) depending on me for their livelihood and they were all scared when they received the video via social media,’’ he stated.

He suspected that the thugs had trailed him before the attack without him noticing. He said that time and again he moves with cash because sometimes he carries out monetary transactions.
