Uganda Joint Christian Council members want 2021 elections posponed

Where Has Uganda Joint Christian Council Been For Last Two Months?

Yesterday, the members of the Uganda Joint Christian Council came out to suggest that the government postpone the 2021 elections until 2023. In addition to that proposal, they also said that during those 3 years, President Museveni should retain his position in the country.

Their argument is that the candidates are not obeying the standard operating procedures regarding Coronavirus.

Obviously, this boiled a lot of mixed feelings from all categories of people. Why are they coming out now? Where have they been all this time? Is their aim really to help the country or there is something in there we don’t know yet?

Some people reached an extent of alleging that members of this council have probably eaten some money and are working in favor of someone.

When you look at the point at which the Christian council is deriving this request, it makes sense. However, it is just unrealistic at such a time. It’s just less than three weeks to the elections. So how can they tell the Electoral Commission to pause this whole process after all the miles they have moved.

This could have probably made sense when we were still in nominations perhaps it would be possible.

At the back of our minds all of us knew that the elections taking place would escalate Covid cases. People always become unruly when it comes to politics and things they love. It is true people are not observing the necessary SOPs, it is always visible in the news footage that we watch.

At this point though, every Ugandan is just ready to go all the way. They just want to see whether the person  they want win. Therefore, the UJCC submission it is pretty unrealistic now.

This move has also made people to think this council is nothing but a pack of old men at a tea party.
