Who Is Protecting Children From Abuse During This Lockdown

During the previous lockdown, there were no strategies laid to protect children. Many children especially girls dropped out of school due to pregnancy. Some boys joined gangs and started tormenting the peace of the country.

Schools could testify that some of their students didn’t manage to go back to school. They dropped out of school and some may not actually manage to ever go back.

If nothing is in plan again this time around, we are bound to see more children rush to adulthood. This Covid period though is bad enough, it shouldn’t affect the lives of children.

This, however, will be difficult if all there is is a lockdown with no plan for them. The government must figure out what to do about this otherwise, the generation ahead will suffer these consequences.

Now that schools are locked and there is nothing much they are doing, other things can easily preoccupy their minds.

The government could lias with TV stations to air child-friendly content at least during day time. Not just about education but teaching them some skills as well.

On their mental health, they just don’t know what is going on anymore and therefore need help.

Some time back, some children clearly said they are tired of school because of this in & out system. Such children should not just be looked at.

Someone needs to make them understand what is going on and in the language they understand. The girls need to be told that before getting pregnant and having sex, there is more to life.

Parents have a great role to play in this matter too. Now is not the time to transfer their frustration to dependants. They can use this time to bond with them instead.

Children should be closely watched because last year during the lockdown, sexual abuse cases were at a high rate.
