William Ruto Won Even With Limited Media Coverage – Dr. Paul Bamutaze

Dr. Paul Bamutaze, Chief Executive Officer of East Africa Strategic Investment Forum, has commended William Ruto ‘s persistence.

Regardless of the limited media coverage, William exhibited strength in the race. In fact Bamutaze says Ruto’s victory shocked everyone because it was not expected.

“Deputy President William Ruto suffered a lack of enough media coverage, and he complained about this even during the debate. The ground wasn’t leveled for the Deputy President, and we thank God he was able to sail through regardless. William Ruto’s victory shocked everyone. He was a strong candidate, but everyone believed he wouldn’t become President even when he wins the election.”

Bamutaze said Kenya’s election was one of the most transparent elections ever witnessed in East Africa. The votes could be tallied by anyone at all stages.

He says the election would have been flagged off there and then if there was any problem.

“I believe that if there was an issue with the verification process of the results, it should have been flagged there and then. The four IEBC Commissioners only disagreed with the final result.”

Sarah Bireete, the executive director of Centre for Constitutional Governance, however, said the 7 days tallying exercise caused panic among citizens.

IEBC should probably make it lesser for the sake of tension.

“Having a country wait for seven days to know their next president causes anxiety, especially since elections are emotive. This was something we raised to IEBC chair Wafula Chebutaki.”
