Otafiire Warns NRM MPs; You Want To Bring Back Things That Took Us To The Bush

The Minister of Internal Affairs Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire has warned NRM not to bring back the things that took them to the bush.

He says if Parliament endorses the proposal to have MPs elect the president, then the five-year bush war that brought NRM to power was meaningless.

He said this while at the 41st Terehe Sita anniversary celebrations that concluded in Mbale.

Otafiire clearly pointed out that the reason they went to the bush was to bring democracy to life. However, if they limit presidential elections to parliament, then all they fought for was for nothing.

“The bush war would be meaningless because those are some of the issues that led us to the bush,” he said.

He also expressed his displeasure with the army and the police who are always beating and torturing citizens. He said on several occasions the army and police have been seen beating and torturing people, something that has to stop.

According to him, the army and police can’t survive without people. So, it would be best if they treated people right.

The talk around town lately has been the torture from police and the army on the Ugandans. Solomon Serwanjja, a veteran journalist even cried out to security agencies to remember that we are all human beings.

According to him, the president awes Ugandans action against this act but they are getting nothing from him yet.
