Zimbabweans Allegedly Selling Toes To Escape Tough Economic Situations

According to unverified claims, Zimbabweans have resorted to selling their toes as a means of economic survival. These rumors started from social media and have now gained attention on the different social media platforms.

According to these reports, cell phone and foreign currency dealers are now cutting off their toes for a fortune. These operate mainly around Ximex mall along Jason Moyo street street.

There are allegedly even prices for each toe according to screenshots on WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook. Some sell their toes for as high as US$40,000 for the big toe, US$25,000 for the middle toe and US$10,000 for the tiny toe.

The same rumors have it that these who sell their toes always wear closed shoes and socks. This is in a bid to hide their chopped off toes.

A local publication in Zimbabwe H-Metro quoted one of the locals. This particular person said that the idea was started as a joke and blown out of proportion. He couldn’t however verify or disregard the rumors.

“I can’t really deny or confirm such activity at Ximex Mall.  What I gathered is that this whole issue was blown out of proportion after a few guys shared it as a joke. Yes, some of the latest cars that the dealers are driving are questionable. Imagine seeing a guy who has been struggling to buy lunch for himself now cruising in a Mercedes-Benz GL400 which costs US$200,000. You have questions,” he said.

And of course such a rumor couldn’t fail to hit Ugandan social media streets. These joined in the meme and jokes making. And its quite hilarious to run into the comment sections about this saga.

“Hope this news doesn’t reach Nansana, abebijambiya webanadda kku bigere omuntu agenda kolla atya,” a Ugandan Twitter user said.

“Lucky are those who have 6 toes,” another said because these can sell the extra toe and remain just fine.

“Can you open a branch in Uganda?,” another user questioned.

“Who is buying I have walked enough!.”

If by any means this is true, then toes are going to become really so valuable.
