Rigathi Gachagua, the former Deputy President of Kenya has taken to social media to decry the state of fear he’s living in. He revealed that masked security agents have been trailing him for the past couple of days.
He said that these have even been parking outside his Nairobi residence as they take note of all his visitors.
On top of that, they follow him up as far as his rural residence. He also mentioned a car that followed him during a recent church service and when he checked its number plates, they did not match.
Read his statement below;
“Security agents in unmarked cars have been following me wherever I go. They are parking at the entrance of my Nairobi residence. Taking note of all my visitors, and they trail me whenever I leave the house. Even all the way to my rural home in Nyeri.”
“Last Sunday, the below saloon car that was parked at the entrance to my residence trailed me to PCEA Kerarapon Church. Followed me to where I went for a late lunch and back to the house! Upon checking the NTSA portal, I noticed that the number plates are registered to a lorry.”
According to him, this surveillance and intimidation of Kenyans was last witnessed during the era of the dreaded ‘Special Branch’ during the “24 years of Moi’s misrule!”
Additionally, he wrote that in this era of extrajudicial killings, forced abductions, and disappearances by state agents, he thought it important to share with Kenyans the harassment and intimidation he’s going through. And inform them to hold the state responsible if he’s harmed by state agents.
Furthermore, Rigathi Gachagua requested the state to leave him alone. Gachagua stated that he was hounded out of office already. They should now allow him to enjoy his peace as a private citizen.
