Government Releases Funds For Road Maintenance Works

The government is releasing Shs26.1b for road maintenance works in the country for the fourth quarter of the 2022-2023 financial year.

The Uganda Road Fund released a circular indicating how the funds are going to be allocated for the works to go on.

Apparently, shs16.4b has been sent to over 130 districts, town councils and sub-counties. Shs6.4b will be sent to 31 municipalities and shs3.3b will go to 10 cities, totaling to shs26.1b.

Some town councils have received as low as shs12m. A number of districts also got as low as shs39m to maintain roads.

These funds will see roads maintained at least until the end of the current financial year as the rainy season starts.

A big number of roads in different parts of the country particularly the districts with community access roads are in a sorry state. This prompted a couple of social media users yesterday to launch an Uganda Pothole Road exhibition.

They launched this campaign by sharing photos of the bad potholes, especially around Kampala City on social media.

Accounting officers have been warned to ensure that the Road Maintenance funds are used for their intended purpose. They have been warned against swindling the funds otherwise there will be lasting consequences.
