Rogue Youth Destroy Property After Police Disrupts Party

Police in Pader has commenced a manhunt for a gang of youths believed to have destroyed several properties worth millions of shillings. The destruction incident took place on Saturday morning.

According to reports, the youth rampaged after the police stopped their party at Hotel Perfect View at around 11:30 pm on Friday night.

It is said that the party had been organized for Rtd. Col. Fearless Obwoya Oyat, the new Pader LC V chairperson.

Many revelers were partying at the said thanksgiving when police intervened and dispersed them for violating the nighttime curfew and restrictions on social gatherings.

However, the police’s intervention efforts did not go so well with the revelers who fought back and stoned the officers. Later on, the revelers vandalized the windscreens of two vehicles, window panes, and commercial premises for several hours.

Pader district police commander Ramadhan Tai says police swung into action as soon as the youths started violating Covid-19 control measures.

He said some of the revelers turned wild and started destroying property before police calmed down the situation. He added that two suspects are currently in custody.

‘’I can confirm that we have two suspects and we are going to arrest more,’’ Tai said.

Tai further said police has commenced investigations into the matter, adding that all those connected to the mob action will face prosecution.
