NRM Parliamentary Caucus Rejects Museveni’s Proposal To Deny Murder Suspects Bail

The NRM parliamentary caucus has rejected President Museveni’s proposal to deny murder suspects bail. Museveni wanted to have an amendment in the penal code act banning the granting of bail to the murder suspects and those accused of committing grave offences.

There was a meeting at Kololo Independence grounds where they discussed this issue.

Sources that preferred anonymity say most of the NRM members are not in favor of this. They feared, that this move would later catch up with them.

Apparently, despite the fact that Museveni tried to make them understand his plea, most were uptight too. He reportedly told them to put themselves in the shoes of the victims of such criminal acts.

The president argued that all suspects of murder, treason, terrorism, embezzlement of government funds, rape and defilement should not get bail.

They should wait until court delivers the final verdict. However, the NRM Parliamentary Caucus members feared that if they agreed with this, the international community will blacklist Uganda.

The caucus will be meeting in two weeks time to for a final verdict on this.

Meanwhile, opposition have strongly condemned this proposal. Bobi Wine says it’s a selfish move that Museveni wants to use against opposition.

It should be remembered that MPs Ssewanyana and Ssegirinya are battling murder cases and their fate is not yet known.
