Police Officer Accidentally Shoots Colleague While Pursuing Suspected Cattle Thieves

Hoima District experienced a hot pursuit gone bad when a police officer got shot by a college. Apparently, the pursuit of suspected cattle thieves came to a stop after one of the officers got shot in the leg by another of the same group.

They immediately called off the chase because they had to take their colleague to the hospital for medical attention.

The incident took place on Monday in the evening hours in accordance with a source from the police who preferred anonymity. Reports show that the police carried out a raid in Kitoba Sub- County.

This is where the thugs that had been terrorizing the community were seen. However, when the police from Hoima Rural Police Station arrived, the thugs quickly sprang into action forcing police to pursue them in a foot race.

The police source said that during the race, one officer sprinted ahead of the others. This happened as the trailing officers fired bullets at the suspects on the run.

During this scuffle, one of the bullets accidentally caught the Officer ahead in one of his legs bringing the chase down to a stop.

As his name remained unknown, the injured intelligence officer turned out to be from Kampala. Headquarters had apparently assigned him to the area to find out why cattle theft had become rampant in Hoima.

Following the unfortunate accident, the officers rushed him to Hoima Regional Hospital and is still receiving treatment. On a good note though, he is said to have sustained minor injuries.

Police in Hoima recently launched a security operation to crackdown on cattle thieves. It has led to the arrest of four suspects one of them being a retired UPDF officer, Wycliffe Kyamanywa 38.

The retired army officer got arrested after police operatives found him in a bush slaughtering suspected stolen cows. The police also seized two vehicles that are suspected of transporting the stolen animals.
