Bobi Wine Lashes Out At Opposition For Blaming NUP For Death Of UCU Student

NUP leader, Bobi Wine, has lashed out at opposition members for blaming NUP for the death of UCU student, Betungura Bewatte.

Bewatte was stabbed on July 14th during a scuffle at Makerere University when the preparations for guild elections were underway. This scuffle was between FDC and NUP supporters.

Some leaders from other opposition parties blamed NUP for failure to control its supporters. Bobi Wine says this is not right especially because investigations have not yet started.

“One of the most disappointing thing about this incident was seeing some people who claim to be fighting for the same objective as us, trying to blame the murder on the NUP camp, even before investigations could start,”

Kyagulanyi says they have on several occasions tried to work with opposition leaders but the regime has frustrated it. Unfortunately, he says opposition has fallen for this time and time again.

Bobi Wine spoke out

“For long, we have made several attempts to work closely with comrades from these camps but our efforts always tend to be rebuffed by some of their leaders. What a pity it is that these comrades have fallen for the regime’s bait. Calculated to further drive a wedge among the forces of change,” said Kyagulanyi.

“So I call upon our colleagues from other formations in the struggle to focus on what unites us rather than what divides us. The political competition notwithstanding, we must relate more honestly and treat each other with objectivity,” he added.

Meanwhile, in similar news the family of the late student, Betungura Bewatte, stabbed at Makerere Guild campaigns a few days ago and the country at large is still in shock over his unfortunate and avoidable murder.

His father is reportedly calling upon any girl that has his son’s pregnancy to come forward. NTV journalist, Sudhir Byaruhanga, revealed this.
