Deputy Speaker Hon Thomas Tayebwa Defends Eddy Kenzo’s Federation

The Deputy speaker of Parliament, Hon Thomas Tayebwa has come out to defend singer Eddy Kenzo-led Uganda National Musicians Federation. It should be noted that ever since this Federation was formed a few months ago, it has made a lot of headlines. At first, critics said that musicians were using it as a tool to scam the government. They said that several musicians were expected to get money through it in order to fight Bobi Wine.

In the last few days, a number of musicians who initially started in it have been exiting quietly. The likes of Spice Diana, Moses Matovu, Phina Masanyalaze have all departed. Apparently this has given more water to the rumors that money came into the Federation. And probably there were disagreements on how to share it. Plus those with a clear conscience decided to leave.

However, Tayebwa refuted this. The MP who was found in attendance of Afrigo Band’s 48th anniversary denied the money issues. He revealed that this Federation is pushing hard for the copyright law. And they have never discussed any issues pertaining to money. In fact they distance themselves from it.

“This Federation led by Eddy Kenzo is fighting so hard for the copyright law. It’s what they are so much after. And the issue of money, they don’t talk about it. In fact I don’t know where it came from,” the Ruhinda north MP said.

Musicians nonetheless remain divided largely due to different political ideologies.

A section of musicians who identify with Bobi Wine have vilified the federation on numerous occasions. The musicians in the federation’s hierarchy also seem like they don’t want anything to do with the Firebase boss.
